Why These Standards Matter
The AFI qualification benchmarks are designed to:
- Match Asian-level competition standards
- Ensure only top-performing athletes represent India
- Improve India’s junior athletics performance internationally
With rising competition across Asia, these standards push athletes to deliver elite-level performances at the domestic stage itself.
Tumkur Trials: The Deciding Factor
The National Junior Athletics Competition in Tumkur is not just another event — it is the final gateway to selection.
For athletes:
- One strong performance can secure qualification
- Missing the mark means missing the championships
With no alternative qualification window, the pressure will be at its peak.
Road to Asian U20 Championships 2026
With the championships just a month away after trials, selected athletes will have limited time to prepare.
The focus will be on:
- Maintaining peak fitness
- Fine-tuning performance
- Adapting to international competition standards
With clear qualification standards in place, the pathway to representing India is now well defined.
All eyes will be on Tumkur from April 24–26, where India’s next generation of athletes will compete for a place on the continental stage.
