Golden Glory in Antalya: India Stuns South Korea and Rules the Recurve at World Cup Stage 3
The final day of the 2026 Archery World Cup Stage 3 at the Gloria Sports Arena in Antalya, Turkiye, belonged entirely to India’s recurve contingent. Spearheaded by a historic golden double from Dhiraj Bommadevara and the composed performance of 17-year-old talent Kumkum Mohod, India defeated archery powerhouse South Korea twice in a single day to claim two gold medals.
With these results, India concluded the Antalya stage of the tournament in second place on the overall medals tally behind China.
The Mixed Team Final: Recurve Upset in Antalya
In the recurve mixed team final, India’s Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod faced off against South Korea's top-seeded heavyweights, Oh Yejin and Kim Je-deok.
The Indian duo put on a clinical display, clinching the final with a commanding scoreline.
- The Scoreline: India defeated South Korea 5-1 (37-36, 37-36, 39-39) in straight sets.
- The Performance: India established an early advantage by winning the opening two sets. In the third set, the South Korean side rallied to score 39 points, but the Indian pair matched them arrow-for-arrow to tie the set and lock in the gold medal.
This victory marked India's first Archery World Cup recurve mixed team gold medal in four years, following the title won by Ridhi and Tarundeep Rai at the Antalya stage in 2022. It was also the second time this season that an Indian recurve unit overcame South Korea, following the women's team victory at the Shanghai World Cup stage in May.
Dhiraj Bommadevara Completes Individual Crown Triumph
Hours after winning the mixed team event, Paris Olympian Dhiraj returned to the shooting line for the men's individual recurve knockout matches to secure his first career individual World Cup gold.
Dhiraj advanced to the final after overcoming a 3-1 deficit against Germany’s Moritz Wieser in a closely contested semifinal, ultimately winning the match 6-4.
In the gold medal match, he faced Paris Olympics bronze medalist Lee Woo-seok of South Korea:
- Dhiraj started strongly, building a commanding 5-1 set-point lead.
- Lee mounted a comeback in the fourth set to narrow the deficit to 5-3.
- In the fifth set, Dhiraj closed out the match by drilling three consecutive 10s to secure a 7-3 victory and finalize his double-gold performance.
