A New Chapter in Indian Sporting History
The Asian Games 2026 were not India's biggest Games by total medals — the 2022 Hangzhou edition remains ahead on both total medals and gold medals.
But Aichi-Nagoya offered something different.
India expanded its medal footprint into new events, produced first-time champions, ended decades-long waits and established new national and Asian records. The campaign also showed the growing depth of Indian sport beyond its traditional medal-winning disciplines.
From Kumkum Mohod's breakthrough in recurve archery to Pranavi Urs' historic golf gold, Aman Sehrawat's wrestling title, Lovlina Borgohain's boxing triumph, Neeru Dhanda's shooting milestones, Sawan Barwal's marathon record and the historic hockey double, Aichi-Nagoya added several new chapters to India's Asian Games story.
