India delivered a mixed but productive Day 2 at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, highlighted by a bronze medal in para powerlifting and encouraging performances across gymnastics, swimming, boxing, and bowls.
Bronze for Jhandu Kumar in para powerlifting
India’s medal of the day came through Jhandu Kumar, who won bronze in the Men’s Heavyweight Final with a result of 130.9 and a best lift of 190kg.
Other Indian lifters also finished inside the standings:
- Ashok Kumar Malik placed 4th in the Men’s Lightweight Final with 143.8
- Parmjeet Kumar finished 7th with 135.6
- Jaspreet Kaur came 6th in the Women’s Lightweight Final with 96.4
- Suman Devi finished 7th with 88.4
- Kasthuri Rajamani recorded No Lift in the Women’s Heavyweight Final
Gymnastics: India’s men finish 7th, two athletes qualify for all-around final
India’s men’s artistic gymnastics team finished 7th in the Team Final with a total score of 208.550.
In the all-around qualification rounds, Tapan Mohanty and Yogeshwar Singh both secured places in the All-Around Final:
- Tapan Mohanty finished 17th with 71.700
- Yogeshwar Singh placed 18th with 71.400
- Tapeswaranath Das ended qualification in 27th with 61.000
Swathish Kaitheri Puthalath also featured in apparatus qualification and was listed as Reserve R2 on Rings.
Swimming and para swimming: final-stage results
India had representation in both heats and finals in swimming.
- R.V.V.B.K. Budigina finished 3rd in the Men’s S13 100m Freestyle Heats with 57.10
- Ali Imam placed 8th in the same heats with 1:05.32
- In the final, R.V.V.B.K. Budigina finished 4th with 57.57
- Ali Imam placed 7th with 1:03.73
In the Men’s 50m Backstroke, Srihari Nataraj clocked 25.52 in the heats and later finished 7th in the semifinal with 25.29, missing out on the final.
Boxing: Jadumani Singh wins 5-0
India also picked up a clear victory in boxing. Jadumani Singh defeated Aaron Cullen of Scotland 5-0 in the Men’s Bantamweight 55kg Round of 32, advancing with a unanimous points win.
Bowls: India continue their strong start
India’s bowls campaign remained positive on Day 2 with two more wins.
- Putul Sonowal defeated Cecil Alexander of the Falkland Islands in Men’s Singles Sectional Play on tie-break after a 1-1 finish
- India’s women’s pairs team beat South Africa 2-0 in Sectional Play
Day 2 summary
Day 2 brought India a bronze medal, two all-around final qualification spots in gymnastics, a strong boxing win, and continued success in bowls. The swimming results added more competitive performances, even though Srihari Nataraj fell short of the final.
