Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 3: India Records Strong Results in Bowls, Gymnastics and Boxing

India’s Day 3 at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow brought a mixed set of results across multiple sports. The day included a tie-break win in bowls, important qualification marks in gymnastics, a convincing boxing victory, and competitive efforts in swimming and wheelchair basketball.

Bowls: India open with a tie-break win

India’s best result in bowls came from the women’s pairs, who defeated Tonga on tie-break after a 1-1 finish. It was a close contest, but India held its nerve when it mattered most.

In the men’s sectional play, Putul Sonowal lost 0-2 to Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple of Malaysia.

Gymnastics: women finish 9th, three athletes stay in contention

India’s women’s artistic gymnastics team finished 9th in the Team Final & Individual Qualification with a total score of 123.000.

There were also encouraging individual performances in qualification:

  • Protistha Samanta scored 42.250 and finished 27th, qualifying for the Vault final and remaining Reserve 3 in the all-around
  • Eshitaa Rewale placed 28th with 41.700 and was listed as Reserve 4 in the all-around
  • Nishka Agarwal finished 34th with 38.550

The results kept India active in the gymnastics competition, with vault qualification standing out as the key highlight from the day.

Swimming: two Indian swimmers fall short of final qualification

India had two swimmers in the men’s 400m freestyle heats, but neither progressed to the final.

  • Dhakshan Shashikumar finished 15th in 3:58.09
  • Aryan Nehra placed 16th in 4:00.26

Both swimmers completed solid efforts, but the times were not enough to move forward.

Boxing: Sachin Siwach wins on points

India picked up a strong win in boxing through Sachin Siwach, who defeated Keoma Al-Ahmadieh of Canada 4-1 in the Men’s Lightweight 60kg Round of 32. It was a confident points victory and one of India’s clearest results of the day.

Wheelchair basketball: India lose to Wales

India faced a difficult outing in Women’s 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball, going down 1-16 to Wales in the preliminary round.

Day 3 summary

Day 3 did not bring a medal for India, but it produced several important competitive moments. The women’s pairs win in bowls, Sachin Siwach’s boxing victory, and the vault qualification spots in gymnastics were the main positives, while swimming and wheelchair basketball proved more challenging.
