India added two more silver medals to its Commonwealth Games 2026 tally on Day 6, with Gulveer Singh claiming the podium in athletics and Harjinder Kaur finishing second in weightlifting. The day also featured an impressive run by India's boxers, qualification performances in swimming and athletics, and competitive outings in bowls.

Gulveer Singh wins silver in 10,000m

India's standout athletics performance came from Gulveer Singh, who won the silver medal in the Men's 10,000m Final after clocking 27:49.78. It marked another podium finish for India's athletics contingent.

In other athletics events:

  • Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi qualified for the Men's 400m Semi-Final after running 46.49s.
  • Rajesh Ramesh finished 25th in the same event and did not progress.
  • Pooja Singh placed 8th in the Women's High Jump Final with a best clearance of 1.77m.

Harjinder Kaur earns silver in weightlifting

India's second medal of the day came through Harjinder Kaur, who lifted 227kg (101kg Snatch + 126kg Clean & Jerk) to win silver in the Women's 69kg Final.

Earlier, Nirupama Devi Seram was unable to register a total in the Women's 63kg Final, recording No Lift in the clean & jerk after a successful 93kg snatch.

Boxing: Three Indians storm into the semi-finals

India enjoyed an excellent day in the boxing ring with three quarter-final victories.

  • Preeti defeated Nicole Clyde (Northern Ireland) 5-0 in the Women's 54kg Quarter-Final.
  • Priya Ghanghas beat Niamh Mitchell (Scotland) 4-1 in the Women's 60kg Quarter-Final.
  • Jadumani Singh outclassed Mwengo Mwaledza (Zambia) 5-0 in the Men's 55kg Quarter-Final.

All three victories guaranteed India at least a bronze medal, as losing semi-finalists receive bronze in Commonwealth Games boxing.

India also had two defeats:

  • Parveen lost 2-3 to Sacha Hickey (England) in the Women's 65kg Quarter-Final.
  • Kapil Pokhariya went down 0-5 to Robert McNulty (Scotland) in the Men's 90kg Quarter-Final.

Swimming: India records multiple finals appearances

India had a busy day in the pool with several swimmers progressing to finals.

Srihari Nataraj qualified for the Men's 100m Backstroke Semi-Final after clocking 55.58s in the heats. He improved to 55.52s in the semi-final but narrowly missed out on a place in the final.

In para swimming, both R.V.V.B.K. Budigina and Ali Imam reached the Men's S13 50m Freestyle Final. Budigina finished 6th with a time of 25.68s, while Ali Imam placed 8th in 28.28s.

India's Men's 4x100m Medley Relay team also progressed to the final after finishing 7th in the heats with 3:39.17. The quartet of Srihari Nataraj, Shoan Ganguly, Sajan Prakash and Tanish George Mathew improved their performance in the final, clocking 3:37.34 to finish 5th.

Earlier in the day, Sajan Prakash competed in the Men's 50m Butterfly Heats, finishing 28th with a time of 24.94s, which was not enough to advance.

Bowls

India's men's pairs team defeated the Cook Islands in sectional play after winning the tie-break following a 1-1 draw.

In the women's singles, Nayanmoni Saikia lost 0-2 to Amy Williams of Wales.

Day 6 summary

Day 6 saw India collect two more silver medals through Gulveer Singh and Harjinder Kaur, while three Indian boxers booked their places in the semi-finals and secured at least bronze medals. Athletics, swimming, and bowls also contributed encouraging performances as India's campaign gathered momentum.
