Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 7: Dilip Mahadu Gavit Leads India's Four-Medal Haul with Games Record Gold

India enjoyed another successful day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, collecting one gold and three silver medals across athletics, para athletics and weightlifting.

Dilip Mahadu Gavit delivered the headline performance with a Games Record in the Men's 100m T47, while Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath, Murali Sreeshankar and Lovepreet Singh added three silver medals to India's tally.

Dilip Mahadu Gavit powers to Games Record gold

India's biggest moment of the day came in the Men's 100m T47 Final, where Dilip Mahadu Gavit sprinted to gold in 10.71 seconds, setting a Games Record and a Season Best.

The race also produced an Indian one-two finish, with Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath claiming silver in 10.83 seconds.

The double podium finish gave India two medals from the same final and highlighted another strong day for the country's athletics contingent.

Murali Sreeshankar claims long jump silver

Murali Sreeshankar secured silver in the Men's Long Jump Final with a best effort of 8.09m.

Fellow Indian Lokesh Sathyanathan also made the final and finished 5th with 7.97m, giving India two athletes inside the top five.

Lovepreet Singh wins weightlifting silver

India's fourth medal came through Lovepreet Singh, who won silver in the Men's +110kg Final with a total lift of 388kg.

Lovepreet lifted 176kg in the snatch, setting a Games Record, before completing 212kg in the clean & jerk.

India also had Sanjana competing in the Women's 77kg Final, but she was unable to register a total after recording No Lift attempts.

More athletics qualification successes

India had several athletes progress through qualification rounds and remain in contention for medals.

In the Men's Shot Put, Tajinderpal Singh Toor qualified for the final with 20.14m, while Samardeep Singh Gill also advanced with 19.95m.

Animesh Kujur progressed to the Men's 200m Semi-Final after clocking 20.46s.

The Men's 400m Hurdles also saw two Indians advance, with Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan recording 49.51s and Yashas Palaksha 49.65s to qualify for the semi-finals.

Strong performances in para athletics

India's para athletics contingent also produced notable performances.

Sagar Thayat finished 6th in the Men's Discus Throw F42-44/F61-64 Final, recording an Asian Record and Season Best of 51.79m.

Devender Kumar finished 7th with a Season Best of 48.20m.

In the Women's Shot Put Final, Manpreet Kaur narrowly missed the podium, finishing 4th with 17.49m.

Parul Chaudhary also finished 5th in the Women's 3000m Steeplechase Final, clocking 9:26.75.

Mixed results in swimming

India had several swimmers in action at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Aneesh Sunil Kumar Gowda finished 18th and Sajan Prakash 20th in the Men's 200m Freestyle Heats, with neither progressing to the final.

In the Men's 50m Freestyle S7 Final, India had two swimmers in contention. Suyash Narayan Jadhav finished 4th in 31.63s, while Chaitanya Vishwas Kulkarni placed 5th in 33.17s.

Both had progressed from the heats earlier in the day.

India records two wins in bowls

India continued its campaign in bowls with two victories.

The Indian men's pairs team defeated Namibia 2-0 in sectional play.

In the Women's Singles Sectional Play, Nayanmoni Saikia also registered a 2-0 victory over Caroline Whitehead of the Isle of Man.

Dilip Mahadu Gavit's Games Record gold and the Indian one-two finish in the Men's 100m T47 were the standout moments. Murali Sreeshankar added silver in the long jump, while Lovepreet Singh secured another silver in weightlifting with a Games Record in the snatch.
