Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 9: Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver as India Takes Four Medals in Glasgow
India enjoyed one of its strongest days at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Day 9, winning four medals — two gold, one silver and one bronze.
The day belonged to judo and athletics, with Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh winning gold, while Neeraj Chopra claimed silver in the men's javelin throw and Yash Vir Singh took bronze. Tejaswin Shankar added another bronze after completing the decathlon.
India also enjoyed a highly successful day in boxing, with several boxers winning their semi-finals and securing places in the finals.
Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh win judo gold
India opened its medal account with two gold medals in judo.
Asmita Dey won the Women's -48kg Final, defeating Heidi Quach of Canada by 2s1-1 to claim the gold medal.
Harsh Singh then delivered another gold for India in the Men's -60kg Final, defeating Joshua Katz of Australia 10-0.
Both judokas had produced strong campaigns earlier in the day, winning their semi-finals to reach the gold-medal bouts.
Yamini Mourya also reached the final of the Women's -57kg category and finished with silver after losing to Acelya Toprak of England by ippon.
Neeraj Chopra wins javelin silver
Neeraj Chopra added another Commonwealth Games medal to his collection with silver in the Men's Javelin Throw Final.
Chopra produced a Season Best of 85.83m to finish second.
India completed the podium with Yash Vir Singh, who won bronze with a Personal Best of 85.41m.
Rohit Yadav finished 7th with 81.56m.
The result gave India two medals from the men's javelin final and another memorable one-two finish on the podium.
Tejaswin Shankar wins decathlon bronze
Tejaswin Shankar capped his decathlon campaign with a bronze medal.
After entering the final event in medal contention, Shankar completed the 1500m in 4:36.19, earning 704 points from the event.
He finished the decathlon with 7,976 points, placing third overall and securing India's bronze medal.
Earlier in the day, Shankar remained in contention through the 110m hurdles, discus throw and pole vault before finishing the competition on the podium.
Indian boxers dominate the semi-finals
India had a highly productive day in the boxing ring, with multiple boxers winning their semi-final bouts.
Preeti defeated Catherine Mwape of Zambia 5-0 in the Women's 54kg semi-final.
Jaismine stopped Rapelang Maselela of Lesotho by RSC in the Women's 57kg semi-final.
Arundhati Choudhary beat Rosie Eccles of Wales 4-0 in the Women's 70kg semi-final.
In the men's draw, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam defeated Philip Pumulo Mutakela Haoseb of Namibia 5-0 in the Men's 55kg semi-final.
Later, Ankush won the Men's 80kg semi-final 5-0 against Joshua Ofori of Canada. 】
The evening session brought further victories. Sakshi defeated Amber-Jane Wall of Canada 5-0 in the Women's 51kg semi-final, while Priya beat Lucy Kings-Wheatley of England 5-0 in the Women's 60kg semi-final.
Lovlina Borgohain also advanced after a 5-0 win over Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Taafaki of Tuvalu in the Women's 75kg semi-final. Sachin defeated Owain Harris-Allan of Wales 5-0 in the Men's 60kg semi-final, while Narender beat Nigel Paul of Trinidad and Tobago 5-0 in the Men's 90+kg semi-final.
Athletics: 400m hurdles finalists finish outside medals
India had two athletes in the Men's 400m Hurdles Final.
Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan finished 7th in 50.37s, while Yashas Palaksha placed 8th in 51.81s.
Mixed results in track cycling
India's riders were also in action in the men's keirin.
Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam, David Beckham Elkatohchoongo and Jemsh Singh Keithellakpam all competed in the first-round heats and progressed to the repechage.
In the repechage, David Beckham finished fourth, while Ronaldo Singh and Jemsh Singh also competed in their respective heats.
Bowls
India continued its bowls campaign with a 2-0 victory over the Falkland Islands in the Men's Pairs sectional play.
Nayanmoni Saikia also registered a 2-0 win over Mildred Mkandawire of Zambia in the Women's Singles sectional play.
Mixed 4x400m relay reaches final
India qualified for the Mixed 4x400m Relay Final after finishing seventh in Round 1 with a time of 3:20.98.
The Indian team comprised Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi, Ansa Babu, Rajesh Ramesh and Rashdeep Kaur.
